System Integration for Media and Office Spaces

The Kiel Office and Media Center in Kiel Science Park is being developed as a new construction project with NDR as the anchor tenant, along with additional office and restaurant spaces. onework provided support through manufacturer-led planning and construction supervision, as well as system integration for room and building automation. Lighting, Human Centric Lighting, sun protection, indoor climate control, occupancy data, access control, measurement and control systems (MSR/GLT), energy consumption monitoring, and technical interfaces for cross-media production were integrated into a scalable automation structure.

Across 8,700 m² of leased space, 652 KNX devices were integrated into a unified automation system. This creates a technical foundation that enables the efficient management of complex operational requirements in the office, hospitality, and media production sectors.

These figures illustrate the technical scope of the system integration. Various building systems, interfaces, and automation components were connected in such a way that, during operation, they function not as individual systems but as an integrated solution. This is particularly relevant for a building that combines traditional office spaces with media-oriented infrastructure and public areas.

Challenges

Complex usage requirements

Office spaces, restaurants, and media-related areas require different technical functions and operational profiles.

Interfaces for Media Production

Technical systems had to interact reliably with media-related infrastructure and building operations.

Cross-Trade Coordination

Lighting, climate control, sun protection, access control, consumption data, and building management systems had to be integrated into a consistent automation framework.

Operational Safety and Transparency

Building operations required clear status information, centralized control, and reliable information flows.

The Solution with onework

onework CORE

onework CORE consolidates relevant building functions into a centralized automation structure. This reduces the number of interfaces, standardizes control logic, and makes technical statuses transparent.

Human Centric Lighting (HCL)

The lighting supports various usage scenarios within the building. Work areas, meeting zones, and common areas benefit from user-oriented lighting control.

Indoor Climate and Sun Shading

Automated indoor climate and shading functions ensure stable conditions, reduce the need for manual intervention, and support efficient operation.

Measurement, Control, and Building Management (MSR/GLT), Access Control, and Energy Consumption Tracking

The integration of central technical interfaces provides transparency regarding system statuses, consumption data, and building functions. This makes facility management more predictable and resilient.
